MORE than 100 patients are receiving treatment for coronavirus at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

As of Tuesday Bolton NHS Foundation Trust had 146 covid patients, according to new figures out.

The data shows that the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on November 10 was up from 82 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 more than tripled in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 39.

A total of 15 patients in the Trust have died with the virus in the 7 days to November 9.

Across England there were 12,033 people in hospital with Covid as of November 10, with 1,010 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The numbers of Covid-19 patients being hospitalised and those on mechanical ventilators have more than doubled in the last four weeks across England.

The figures also show that 124 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Bolton NHS Foundation Trust in the week to November 8. This was up from 79 in the previous seven days.

Bolton has the 18th highest infection rate in England, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

In the seven day period to November 9, 1,378 new cases were reported in Bolton, based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

This is an infection rate of 479.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Cases have decreased from those recorded in the seven days to November 2, where 1,616 cases were reported, with an infection rate of 562.0

The majority of areas in England have seen a rise in case rates.

Hull has the highest rate in England, with 1,931 new cases recorded in the seven days to November 9 - the equivalent of 743.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Blackburn with Darwen has the second highest rate, which has fallen from 731.5 to 686.1, with 1,027 new cases.

Oldham is in third place, where the rate has dropped from 792.5 to 677.7, with 1,607 new cases.

The Government has implemented a second lockdown for England, which is due to be in place until December 2.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said four weeks should be enough to drive down the spread of coronavirus so the severe restrictions can be eased.

Mass testing trials are due to start in Bolton as part of plans to expand asymptomatic testing for Covid-19.
