BOLTON boxer Amir Khan's luxury Mercedes has been severely damaged after a motorway crash.

The 33-year-old said the impact felt like "being hit with a combo", after the car aquaplaned into the central reservation.

He shared a video of the damage to his white Mercedes S350 – worth around £90,000 – on social media this morning.

Speaking alongside it he said: "Thank Allah everyone is safe.

"A scary experience, car lost control on the motorway.

"Smashing into the side of the motorway barrier felt like being hit with a combo!"

He shared the post alongside the hashtag, aquaplane, insinuating that the vehicle had skidded on the damp road surface.

The crash is believed to have taken place last night, on the M6 motorway.

According to the AA, aquaplaning happens when water builds up in front of the tyres, with the car losing grip on the road as a layer of water builds between the road and the tyre.

A car can aquaplane if there is 'standing water on the roads', which can then be affected by three factors: speed, tyre tread and water levels.

The AA advises keeping your driving 'smooth and steady' to help avoid aquaplaning, and to regularly check your tyres.

Amir has previously shown off his super-car collection, including a £271,000 Lamborghini Aventador, a £233,000 Rolls Royce Phantom and a £65,000 Range Rover.
