TWO of Manchester’s most famous bands are set to unite for an arena tour next year.

Happy Mondays, who formed in Little Hulton in 1980 and feature Bolton-born dancer Bez, will appear alongside Sit Down-hitmakers, James, for the first time since 1988.

The tour, which is set to kick off at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on November 25, 2021, will see both bands playing seven dates including a hometown gig at Manchester AO Arena on December 3.

A statement from James said: “Lockdown greetings to one and all. In these extraordinary times, obviously our traditional winter tour won’t be possible, but let’s set a date for this time next year so we in Jamesland collectively have something to look forward to!

“With that in mind, you’re cordially invited to our 2021 winter tour of the UK and Ireland, joined by very special guests and fellow Mancunian mavericks, Happy Mondays.”

James bassist, Jim Glennie, said: “I take great pleasure in welcoming Happy Mondays to join us on our 2021 Winter Tour.

“True Manchester legends and old band buddies, it will be an honour to have them as our very special guests.

“Make sure you get your tickets for an exceptional double bill of fun and fantastic music.”
