HOSPITAL bosses say they have been shortlisted for a top medical award for the way in which they have diagnosed Covid-19.
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust has been named as a contender for the Health Services Journal’s acute sector innovation of the year prize for its work with artificial intelligence and the virus.
This is for their ongoing partnership with Qure.ai and involves the use of algorithims in chest radiography.
In layman’s terms this has helped to ensure swifter diagnoses of suspected coronavirus cases within the trust.
Dr Francis Andrews, a consultant in emergency medicine, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the work Dr Malik and his team have done to utilise cutting-edge technology here in Bolton.
“Even more exciting for us is how we’ve been able to apply this to the biggest challenge we currently face – the ongoing pressures of COVID-19.
“Well done to the team, we’re looking forward to seeing where else we can expand this technology to make a real difference to our patients and staff.”
As part of the judging, the team will be expected to deliver a video presentation, before a virtual awards in March.
