LIFE went full circle for midwife Violet Atkinson when she retired after serving mums around the Worsley area for 26 years.

Mrs Atkinson delivered her final baby - a little girl Alison Aird - in 1973 bringing to an end a career in which she reckoned she had brought around 2,000 babies into the world.

To mark the occasion, Mrs Atkinson was reunited with the very first baby she delivered back in 1947 - Alan Seddon.

“I do remember that he looked like his father,” said Nurse Atkinson.

Now 26, Alan had recently got married and was around six feet taller than when the midwife had last seen him.

The Evening News arranged for 10-day-old Alison Aird to be present at the reunion so that the midwife who had done so much for the community could have a very special photograph to mark her last day at work.
