A Bolton bar and restaurant owner has warned that reopening under tougher restrictions when lockdown ends on December 2 will not be 'financially viable'.

Rebecca Brayshaw, who runs Little Bolton Town Hall on St George's Street, fears the Christmas period will be a write-off for the hospitality industry.

A tougher three-tier system is expected to replace the national lockdown from December.

However, there are growing concerns that tier three will limit hospitality venues to takeaway only.

Boris Johnson is set to reveal plans for Christmas and the lockdown tiers this afternoon.

Rebecca said: "I feel like Christmas is a no-go area, the reality is we are a business and we need to make money, so reopening under strict measures just isn't financially viable.

"There's no point opening just for the sake of PR and to make people think everything is open again.

"The most ideal situation for us is the possibility to have households mixing indoors with the rule of six.

"Christmas is our busiest time but people want to go out and celebrate with their friends or extended family, not necessarily the people they live with.

"Only allowing single households limits us greatly.

"Normally the run up to Christmas and the festive period gives us the money to see us through January and February.

"We want to remain positive but realistically we have to remain cautious.

"Obviously Bolton has already undergone a lot and we have to ask ourselves whether opening in the run up to Christmas would lead to another lockdown further down the line anyway."
