A TWO hundred-plus signature petition calling for action to end parking problems and congestion in and around the Royal Bolton Hospital and a high school has been submitted to transport bosses.

Fed-up residents are calling for a number of measures to be implemented to prevent parking misery in the area, which in part is caused by visitors to the hospital, and to make it safer for other road users.

Parking problems include obstructing the view of drivers using the busy Bradford Road.

The Bolton News:

There are are calls for the council to implement a scheme for the surrounding residential roads, similar to that adopted outside the Christie Hospital, which is said to be “working well”.

Measures being called for include waiting restrictions on Minerva Road, near to the junction with Bradford Road, pick-up and drop-off areas for Mount St Josephs School, residents-only parking on Minerva Road, and waiting restrictions on the bend entering Waters Edge.

The Bolton News:

Bolton’s Council transport chiefs agreed to undertake a review of the parking restrictions in that area, subject to funding becoming available.

Cllr Sue Haworth, ward councillor, said: “Parking matters have worsened at Minerva Road East and the first part of the highway at Waters Edge.

"Residents are constantly having to experience parked vehicles in the area that block a good line of sight of the road and the pavement where the highway bends.

"More residents want double yellow lines to prevent vehicle parking and to make the roads safer.

"This includes on the approach to and entrance from the traffic lights at Bradford Road.”
