TWO women have been arrested after cannabis worth up to £50,000 was seized as part of an operation aimed at preventing drugs from being imported into the country.
The 37-year-old and 36-year-old were arrested in Hartlepool on suspicion of importation of a controlled drug on Tuesday.
They are alleged to be connected to a package of suspected cannabis – estimated to have a potential street value of £50,000.
The women have been released under investigation.
PC Sarah Walker, said: “These arrests are part of ongoing work to disrupt the importation of illegal drugs and other items into the UK.
“People should be warned that packages are routinely inspected by Border Force who work closely with local and regional enforcement. If anyone has any information regarding importation of drugs then they can contact us on 101.”
A joint operation was carried out by by Hartlepool Neighbourhood Police Team, the National Crime Agency (NCA), the Border Force and the North East Regional Special Operations Unit (NERSOU).
The operation focused on work to disrupt illegal importation of weapons and drugs into the UK.
