ROADWORKS causing major disruption around Bolton are nothing new as this photo from 1930 demonstrates.
It shows the on-going road widening scheme along a stretch of Old Kiln Lane from Markland Hill to Bob’s Smithy.
On the right of the picture. two cottages had been demolished as part of the scheme and on the left, the white building is Bob’s Smithy Inn on the junction with Chorley Old Road which still exists today.
We love the road roller in the background and notice the ‘uniform’ for the workmen - waistcoats and and flat caps, not a high-vis jacket in sight!
