Yesterday it was officially announced that Bolton would be under tier 3 restrictions after December 2.

This is despite a rapidly decreasing coronavirus infection rate across the whole north west.

By comparison, London, which will be placed under tier 2 restrictions is believed to have an R rate of 1-1.2.

Whereas the R rate for the north west is thought to be 0.8-1, which means the rate of infections should continue to fall.

This is what your MP had to say:

Chris Green, Conservative MP for Bolton West and Atherton wants to see the analysis that was done to decide to put Greater Manchester in tier 3 given its falling coronavirus infection rate.

He Tweeted: "I will look forward to reading the analysis that the Government must have done.

"Matt Hancock said that Cornwall is in T1 because of how well people have behaved. Does he spend much time there or has it been reported to him. I would like to see that report and the GM version."

In a reply to a Tweet he specifically questioned why London was placed in tier 2 and not Greater Manchester, saying: "How would you then explain Greater London being in T2 when they have a greater population density than Greater Manchester."

Yasmin Qureshi, Labour MP for Bolton South East, also reacted with disappointment to the announcement.

She also criticised the government and stated that their strategy has "not been working".

She Tweeted: "Disappointing that Bolton has been put in to the toughest restrictions again. While this was inevitable, it is clear that the Government's strategy since July has not been working."

Ms Qureshi vowed to continue to stick up for residents, adding: "I'll continue to do everything I can to advocate for more support for my constituents."

Mark Logan, Conservative MP for Bolton North East, has called for Bolton to be removed from tier 3 restrictions when they are reviewed in two weeks time.

He recorded a video in Victoria Square sharing his disappointment and to say he will "fight Bolton's corner" when the tiers are up for review.

He said: "I know that this isn't the news you wanted to hear, especially because you've been working so hard to bring the numbers down in recent weeks in Bolton.

"I have been speaking with Bolton Council, our government in Westminster, to make sure in the next couple of weeks when the review period comes up that we can fight Bolton's corner to make sure we are not in tier 3 as long the numbers have gone in the right direction."
