NO your eyes aren’t deceiving you, you really can see two town halls in this picture taken by Evening News photographer Tom Armstrong back in 1974.
He used a reflection in a shop window on Newport Street to produce this unusual image.
What isn’t explained is what happened to the hands of the clock belonging to Rediffusion which seem to have mysteriously disappeared. Thankfully we’ve always got the town hall to rely on.
For younger readers, Rediffusion was the place to go to rent your TV from - very few people bought their TV sets in the early Seventies.
The town certainly looks as though it was bustling with life when the picture was taken.
