A road was closed near the town centre this morning after a van collided with a pedestrian.

GMP Bolton North and Transport for Greater Manchester reported that Castle Street, Haulgh, Bolton, was closed between Bradford Street and Chadwick Street from around 10:15am.

Police have since confirmed that the road was closed due to a collision between a van and a pedestrian in Bradford Street.

This was due to what has been described as a "serious accident".

A statement from Transport for Greater Manchester said: "Road traffic collision Bolton.

"B6209 Castle Street is closed between the junctions of Chadwick Street and A579 Bradford Street in both directions.

"Allow extra time for your journey if travelling in the area."

A spokesman from Greater Manchester Polce said: "Shortly after 9.45am this morning, police were called to reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian on Bradford Street, Bolton.

"Emergency services are in attendance.

"Anyone with information should call GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 894 of 28/11/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."

The road has since reopened and traffic is said to be coping well.
