BREAST screening services for the over 70s have now resumed after the coronavirus pandemic saw all appointments halted.

Women between 50 and 70-years-old are invited for routine breast cancer screenings by the NHS.

After reaching 71, women can choose to receive further examinations every three years by referring themselves to the Breast Screening Unit (BSU).

All screening centres have safety measures in place to prevent the spread of covid-19, with staff wearing PPE, machines disinfected after each mammogram, and spaced out appointments to ensure social distancing can take place.

No matter what age you are, a change in the size or shape of your breasts, discharge from either of your nipples, or a lump or swelling in either of your armpits should prompt you to contact your doctor.

Dimpling on the skin of your breasts, a rash on or around the nipple, and a change in the way your nipple looks should also be mentioned to your GP.

If you are within the age range of people monitored, you will receive a letter inviting you to the clinic.

To book an appointment, or self-refer yourself to the clinic, call 01204 390454.
