TEACHERS supporting Movember, may have thought they looked cool — but their pupils found the look hilarious!

But either way the efforts of teachers at St George's CE School, Westhoughton, were worth it, for they with support from pupils, raised more than £700 for Macmillan Cancer.

Head Philip Ivory, supported by three of his teachers, took part in the month much to children's delight, and the School Council came up with different fundraising ideas, including children donning their own fake tash, to boost funds further.

Mr Ivory said: "Every Friday we have a themed day and the children came in wearing moustaches — there were some very creative tashes, with some reaching the floor!

"It was just a bit of fun during these times, something lighthearted to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, as we were not able to have the coffee morning as we usually do."

Unfortunately, although he liked it, popular opinion meant Mr Ivory shaved off his facial hair as soon as Movember ended this week.

The school council said: "Moustaches made the staff look funny and the faces very hairy. It gave us all a laugh each day. On some of the staff they looked good but not so on others - one of them looked a bit daft!"

Ideas the council came up with included a movie afternoon with pupils wearing their pyjamas complete with popcorn.

They also staged sporting challenges.

The council added: "The moustaches of the children were hilarious - there were some really creative ones. The girls looked especially strange! Looking at all the different moustaches was very funny and brought a smile to everyone's faces - some children look funny, some looked daft and some actually suited them. We enjoyed voting for the best moustache in each class.

"It was really good to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. We couldn't have our normal coffee morning when we sing to our parents and they enjoy a cup of tea and cake in the hall so it was great to do something different in school."
