A MAN has admitted killing a 23-year-old university graduate from Tyldesley on a Manchester street after a situation escalated when a teenager doing wheelies on a bike was pushed over.

But Aiden Matthews, 31, has denied murdering David Allan and is on trial at Manchester Crown Court. His co-defendant Joseph Stott, 24, from Partington, has denied Mr Allan's murder.

The court heard Mr Allan was attacked on Wythenshawe Road in Northenden in the early hours of June 4 on his way home from Tesco.

Prosecutor Nick Johnson QC said Mr Allan had been outside the store when he was approached by a youngster, performing a wheelie on a bike. Mr Allan pushed him over.

Later when he came out of Tesco he was pursued by a woman in a car, with three boys, before a van pulled up.

Matthews, from Wythenshawe, was told Mr Allan had hit one of the boys. He was the driver and it is alleged, the van was reversed at Mr Allan, the court heard.

Mr Johnson said Mr Allan was then set upon by Matthews and the boys, before the violence subsided.

Later Stott is alleged to have joined Matthews in a hunt for Mr Allan, ending with the pair attacking the third man.

Mr Johnson said Matthews struck Mr Allan with a metal pole and Stott kicked him repeatedly. The victim died from his injuries the next day. The trial continues.
