WITH many of us seeing the first snow of the winter and temperatures dropping, we thought that this atmospheric photo was appropriate.
Taken during the ‘Big Freeze’ on 1961 it shows that the frozen lodges around Belmont had become a major attraction for those wanting to skate and even play ice hockey.
Taking to the ice in cold weather is not recommended and you suspect that today the ‘revellers’ would be dissuaded from getting their skates on,
What adds to this picture are the old cars - an Austin A30 a Mini and possibly a Wolseley all parked up. Let’s hope they didn’t need to call for help when they tried to drive away.
