A Bolton care home was featured on the BBC this morning, showing off the innovative way it has allowed residents to see their families again.

Bakewells Care Home in Junction Road featured on the Morning Live show, interviewing residents, staff and visitors about their experiences of care home life through the coronavirus pandemic.

Cllr Andy Morgan, who runs the home, is questioned on the show about how tough it has been for him and the residents during this time, but how the residents "took a war mentality to it".

Winifred Burgoyne, who celebrated her 109th birthday earlier this year, is set as an example by Cllr Morgan who throughout the crises has been saying "I've been through two world wars so I can get through this".

"That's the mentality we've got," added Cllr Morgan.

Eighty-five year-old Brenda is visited by her daughter Jean who get to safely talk in the pod.

Jean says before seeing her mum again "I do miss her because I'm used to seeing her on a regular basis" and when she asks Brenda what she thinks of the pod she says "I admire them because they didn't have to provide this but they have done."

Cllr Morgan after the show aired told The Bolton News that it was a very positive experience and all the crew involved were very thoughtful to staff and residents.

He said: "It was really positive to see. The whole team were really lovely and went out of their way to be safe.

"The pod overall has been really positive and been really well received by residents and families.

"You can't put a price on visiting family and you can't put a price on safety which this provides.

"The residents love it and it's a little adventure for them to go out to the pod and they always appreciate being able to see their loved ones.

"Showing this on national TV can only be a positive thing for Bolton."
