THE England team may have travelled to Sweden for the European Championships finals in 1992 but there was also a tense competition taking place much closer to home.
Ladbrokes on Deansgate was the unlikely setting for the final of Bolton’s very own version of the Euros with local pubs and clubs sending representatives to take part in the Subbuteo championships.
The real football final saw Denmark upset favourite Germany to take the trophy.
But in Bolton it was the CIS, represented by Nigel Eccles from the Man and Scythe who emerged 3-0 winners over Lol Catterall’s Sweden team from Maxims..
Nigel was presented with a special trophy and the £50 winner’s cheque with both finalists also receiving free £10 bets by Ladbrokes.
