A Bolton ASDA worker has gone viral for kindly supporting an elderly customer in store.

ASDA Daubhill worker, Gemma Parish, helped an elderly customer who had collapsed in the store back in October.

She helped him to recover after he fell when he became dizzy, looking after him for half an hour until he felt better.

Gemma then paid for his shopping out of her own pocket and arranged for a taxi to pick him up and take him home.

The store reimbursed her for her kind actions and Gemma has since been given an ASDA award by the store.

Store manager Ava Joyce nominated Gemma for the award, saying: "The customer – who's a regular here – had a small amount of shopping and was panicking that he needed it, so Gemma went and paid for it from her own pocket so that the gentlemen had his essentials.

"She then arranged for him to get a taxi home. This was a lovely gesture and we are all very proud of her here."

A post on the store's Facebook page telling Gemma's story has since been shared over 660 times with over 29,000 likes and 1,700 comments.

Gemma only began working at the store little over five months ago, but Ava said she has quickly become a popular member of the team.

She said: "Gemma's a lovely caring colleague who always goes above and beyond."
