Bolton's MPs have reacted with disappointment to the announcement that Bolton will stay under tier 3 restrictions.

MP for Bolton South East, Yasmin Qureshi, said she feels pubs have been unfairly treated in Bolton for a long time.

She said: "It is hard not to feel that Bolton pubs have been singled out unfairly. All people ask for is consistency and fairness.

"In September places in Bolton were put into a form of Tier 3 restrictions when cases were at a level lower than other areas being put into Tier 2 now.

"At that time hospital admissions were low too. It does feel that the goalposts are constantly moved for our pubs.

"My position has always been to understand the need for restrictions but to say that any business forced to close should be fully supported.

"This has not been the case in Bolton and Greater Manchester. I will continue to do what I can to support pubs and other businesses hit hard by the restrictions."

Mark Logan, MP for Bolton North East, has also expressed his disappointment after campaigning for Bolton to move down to tier 2.

He said: "I am bitterly disappointed with the government’s decision for Bolton to remain under Tier 3 restrictions.

"Foremost, I want to recognise the actions of fellow Boltonians who have worked especially hard to control the virus. Because we are getting it under control.

"We have forfeited much freedom under the toughest form of restrictions.

"We have brought the local rate of infection down, below the national average.

"I do understand that we are in a difficult period of time nationally, and that the Christmas break will provide a degree of relief from what feels like a never-ending lockdown.

"Though I have been advised that if our infection rates and other criteria are stable in the New Year then there is a strong likelihood that we can move to Tier 2."

Chris Green, MP for Bolton West and Atherton, who voted against further restrictions at the last opportunity, criticised Labour.

He said: "The “indifference” comes from London led @UKLabour whilst I voted to oppose these restrictions, Labour’s team were a little confused and perhaps just forgot to do their job as Members of Parliament."
