A TEENAGE shoplifter filled a trolley with £510 worth of booze before stealing two rucksacks.

Blackburn magistrates heard Jordan Hargreaves went into the toilets and emerged carrying the rucksacks full of drink.

He then forced open a fire exit, causing damage.

Hargreaves, 18, of Milton Street, Brierfield, pleaded guilty to two charges of shoplifting from Tesco, Burnley, and one of criminal damage. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement. He was ordered to pay £606 compensation to Tesco, £85 costs and £95 victim surcharge.

Stacey Morrow, prosecuting, said the first incident was on May 15 when Hargreaves was caught on CCTV taking bottles of alcohol and then leaving through the fire exit.

On June 29 a security guard was alerted by an alarm at the fire exit. He checked CCTV which showed Hargreaves filling a trolley with booze, taking two rucksacks off the shelf and then going to the toilets.

“When he came out he was carrying the rucksacks and then forced the fire door,” said Miss Morrow.

David Lawson, defending, said on both occasions Hargreaves had been in the company of an older man who appeared to have encouraged him to commit the offences.

“His previous convictions also involved ad adult male,” said Mr Lawson.
