THE first care home residents in Bolton are due to receive the coronavirus vaccine this week.

One million people have had the vaccine across the UK it was reported today – with an aim of 15 million jabs to end lockdowns by the end of February.

Medics are looking to give out the jab to all staff and residents at one of the borough’s biggest care homes before New Year’s Day.

A team of six will go into the home to administer the vaccine. More care homes will be visited in the New Year.

More than 2,000 people have now had the jab across Bolton – with 1,000 done in the first three days.

Another 975 doses were processed by a Covid crack team of more than 20 – including doctors, pharmacists, a physio and nurses – in the next two days.

Hall i’th Wood and Crompton areas was the first area to administer vaccinations.

The second centre administering the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is Lever Chambers in Bolton town centre.

They are giving the vaccine to patients from central Bolton, Farnworth, Kearsley and Rumworth.

Dr Helen Wall said the feedback from those receiving the jabs had been ‘extremely positive’.

She said: “It’s been quite emotional at times.

“Being over-80s a lot of patients were struggling with mobility but the amount of efforts that families made to bring their relatives who perhaps haven’t been out for months has been amazing.”
