TWO teenage girls from Bolton have launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for care packages for the lonely and vulnerable across the Farnworth area.

Chloe Bent and Abbie Bicknell, both 17, have raised more than £200 so far and have had numerous donations of goods from generous residents. The pair decided to take action after struggling themselves during the pandemic and wanted to do what they could for the community.

Chloe said: “The boxes are for people who are sick and vulnerable and for elderly people too. They have basic hygiene essentials in them like shower gel, face masks and hand sanitiser, as well as little treats. We have also put in some puzzle books and things like that.

“One of those who we helped was a mum of three who was having a problem with money. One of her children had a disability and things were hard for her, so we made up a care package with a small food shop and put in things like toys and clothes.”

The charitable teens have received positive feedback for their fundraising and dozens have praised their endeavours.

Chloe said: “Overall it has been very positive and we have even had people saying that we need more people like you.

“Some people have been getting in touch with us to tell us places we can go to and others have directly got in touch to ask us for a package. We have been targeting areas where we know there are elderly and vulnerable people.”

The care package scheme is not the first charitable effort the pair have undergone, having previously raised more than £1,000 for charity in a sponsored walk.

Chloe added: “Any donations are appreciated - we just want to do a positive thing in such a rubbish time and seeing people smile is our goal. We hope everyone stays safe and remembers to love their families and close ones a little harder in these times.”
