POLICE recovered an abandoned caravan last night, with enquiries underway to determine why it was there.

Farnworth and Kearsley neighbourhood officers responded to the report of the abandoned caravan in MacDonald Avenue, New Bury.

The caravan was found to have extensive internal and external damage.

Due to the risk posed to pedestrians and other road users it was recovered and police enquiries will continue to establish if it was stolen, and who the owner is.

Farnworth councillor Paul Sanders posted on Facebook: "Thankfully finally removed after numerous reporting from us all."

The Bolton News recently ran a story about caravans worth £40,000 being stolen from a high-security lock-up – with one being traced to a travellers site.

It was the latest in a spate of vehicle related thefts in the borough.
