BOLTON Sailing Club has been nominated for a national award.

The club is competing for in Yachts and Yachting Club of the Year awards run by the Royal Yachting Association.

Already it has been given special recognition in the category 'Inclusive and open to all', which recognises clubs or projects which have had an impact on developing participation amongst people with disabilities or form under-represented or disadvantaged groups.

Spokeswoman Leanne Pilkington said: "We are over the moon.

"One of the reasons for that recognition is the thriving Sailability activities offered at Bolton that have enabled many people with disabilities to get on the water in specially adapted craft in which they can compete against other club members.

"The section won the RYA Sailability Team of the Year.

"The club established a set of values in 2019 that have served them well to meet the challenges of Covid.

"They have worked throughout the pandemic to provide a safe environment for people to get afloat when that has been allowed.

"During lockdowns, the club has used video calls and virtual on-line racing to keep members engaged.

"We hope we can train members as soon as we can."
