Joinery workshop unit fire breaks out on Bertha Street, Halliwell

Five fire engines were sent to Bertha Street at around 3.20am following reports of a fire and extinguished the flames.

Two hydraulic platforms were also set up as crews battled the fire.

Rochdale Fire Station manager Simon Wood, the commanding officer at the incident, said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze, which had started from materials such as timber.

Crews battled to extinguish the flames in the roof void but managed to stop the fire from spreading severely.

A couple of other units were affected by the blaze, Mr Wood said.

He added: "I was very pleased with how the firefighting went."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 3.20am this morning, five fire engines from Bolton Central, Bolton North and Farnworth fire stations were called to reports of a fire involving an industrial building on Bertha Street, Bolton.

"Two hydraulic platforms were also mobilised to this incident.

“Firefighters arrived quickly and worked hard throughout the morning to bring the fire under control using three hose reels, one jet, breathing apparatus, a high-pressure lance and other specialist equipment.

“Crews remain in attendance at this time.”
