A THIEF has been handed a community order after stealing from a supermarket in Breightmet five times in just over a month.
Between Friday, December 11 and Thursday, January 14, police received reports of five thefts from a supermarket on Breightmet Fold Lane to the total value of £136.42.
Police say William Henderson, of Bury Road, Breightmet, was identified from CCTV on each occasion as entering the store, taking bottles of alcohol from the display, before placing them down his trousers and leaving the store.
And on Monday, officers from the Breightmet Neighbourhood Team arrested Henderson, 57, in relation to the thefts, as well as breaching his community order, which was issued as a result of a number of shopliftings at the start of 2020.
Henderson was subsequently charged and remanded in police custody to appear at Wigan & Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The defendant appeared at court and was charged with five counts of theft.
At court, Henderson pleaded guilty to all counts and was sentenced to a community order, a 12-week curfew monitored electronically and ordered to pay £136.42 in compensation.
