RAPID testing is now available for people without symptoms and is being supported by more than 100 soldiers.

The rapid testing sites are primarily aimed for public-facing workers who cannot work from home and is ran by military personnel and public sector staff, with one having opened at Oldham Community Leisure Centre.

The testing centre on Middleton Road is open Monday to Saturday from 7am until 7pm, but is closed for one hour between noon and 1pm.

If you go to the test centre, upon your arrival, you will be greeted at the front desk where you will be given an NHS card with barcodes for the test and you will be told how to fill out your details on the forms.

After this, you will be taken through to a 'bay' to complete the form before someone collects you and tells you how to administer your own test.

Once you have completed the test, you pass it back and it gets dipped into a solution for several seconds.

Peter Pawson who leads the rapid testing programme for Oldham council said: "If because of your job you need to leave your home and you need to be interacting with the public or need to be in a shared work place we want you to be getting one test a week.

"What that does is it protects people who don't know they have the virus and by doing that we break the chain of transmission."

The tests are free and no appointment is necessary with results returning within the hour.
