Traffic was closed on a major Bolton road following an accident involving a police van.

The incident happened earlier this evening at the junction of Blackburn Road and Moss Bank Way, Astley Bridge near the Asda Bolton Superstore.

A police van was on its side and blocking traffic towards Hall i’th Wood. Traffic was down to outside lane only southbound into Bolton on Blackburn Road.

Police said: "At approximately 1900 hours on Monday 25th January 2021, police officers were responding to an incident whereby the police van was involved in a collision with a BMW at the junction of Moss Bank Way and Blackburn Road.

"The collision resulted in the police van tipping onto the driver’s side.

"Both Police officers have been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure however there are not believed to be any serious injuries.

"No other persons were injured during the collision."

"Anyone with information can contact Police on 101 quoting log number 2372 25.01.2021."

Emergency vehicles and an ambulance were in attendance.
