THE chair of a charity has warned 'hippy crack' users that the waste they leave behind could injure people.
Chair of Bolton Nice, Martin McLoughlin, said that that service users of the service could fall on the canisters that are left behind, and when obscured by snow, could provide a tripping hazard.
Nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas or hippy crack, is usually consumed through balloons.
The canisters are often left lying where they are used and rust away.
The Bolton Nice team found around 50 of the canisters over the weekend, spread around the charity's car park in Halliwell.
Martin said: "The big concern is that we have a lot of disabled people and if they slip on one of these canisters they could fracture a hip - so we had to make sure it was all cleaned up.
"The car park is on a slope and with snow you can't even see them, so they can be easily slipped on. It is a concern that so many people seem to be using them. Not just for us, but all around Bolton."
