DETECTIVES have issued an appeal after a woman was raped in her own home by an intruder in Walkden.

Police say the attack took place late at night on Saturday as the search for the offender begins.

Detectives have revealed the man, thought to be aged 35 to 40, had entered the victim's home, between 10.30pm and 11pm.

The alleged rape was reported to police at around 12.15am on Sunday and the victim is receiving specialist counselling.

The description of the intruder is of a white man, 6ft tall, 'well built', with a ginger beard and tattoo on one of his arms.

He is said. at the time of the incident, to have been wearing a black baseball cap with a white tick, a blue jacket, a white t-shirt, jeans and trainers with a silver emblem.

Det Chief Insp Gareth Jenkins, of GMP's Salford district, said he understood the possible public concern in the wake of the incident.

He added: "I appeal to anyone with information or who saw a man fitting the description in the Walkden area late on Saturday evening or early on Sunday morning to contact us or Crimestoppers, anonymously, immediately."
