A PRIMARY school teacher is celebrating as her life-long dream of getting a book published has come true.

Lizzie Ingram, 29, from Devonshire Road Primary, has a new children’s picture book released.

The Little Wonky Pumpkin was out on Friday, a feel-good tale of embracing what makes each of us unique.

The story, set at Halloween, sees the wonky pumpkin repeatedly dismissed by customers, who instead opt for a shiny, beautiful pumpkin.

And Lizzie said the theme of the book is acceptance - no matter what differences there are.

She said: “The idea of the book is that everyone can be accepted and that everyone can be loved despite what differences they may have.

“I hope this can be a little uplifting tale for people and the children who read it. Especially with everything that is going on, I hope that it can be a little light at the end of the tunnel.”

Lizzie said that she has long harboured an ambition of getting a book published, with this release the result of a life-long dream to get a story in print.

The book has been released by publishers Austin Macauley, which have a range of children’s books under their belt.

She said: “I sent in my sketch designs and they made them into the art that you see in the book - it’s all happened within a year and it has been incredible.

“I have been writing children’s books since I was really young. I was given a spare exercise book when I was about seven and wrote a story about time travel - that’s where it all started for me really.

“I am still hoping this can be a career for me - the fact I’ve got it out there just before I turn 30 is great so I am hoping I can turn it into something.”

Lizzie has an idea for a new story in the pipeline, featuring dinosaurs at Christmas, but would not spill any further details. The book is available at Amazon, Waterstones and Barnes and Noble.
