A CAKE shop operating out of a horse box has been a runaway success in lockdown.

The Cakery, run by William Chambers, with fiancée Rosie Lomax and brother Daniel, has been operating for around five years.

The business has been able to thrive in the last year by remaining open for takeaways and keeping its overheads low.

Bosses now hope to expand with a fleet of horseboxes as well as hoping for a permanent location - by opening up their first cafe in Bolton.

The venture serves up teas, coffees and other treats for its customers. It has provided catering services for Woodland Trust events and music festivals.

Based in Walker Fold, William said, despite the pandemic, 2020 was a hit year for the business, as they were still able to offer takeaways.

He said: “The past year for us has been our best year. It has made our business grow faster as we have been allowed to stay open for takeaway. We plan to open up a new horse box in the next few months, to be operated in another part of Bolton.

“When the pandemic first came around, we though we would have to close, but we were able to open up again after a few weeks. We didn’t know what to expect but we have been blown away by the last year.”

William said he would love to see a fleet of horse-boxes - as well as a permanent cafe location in Bolton.
