WANDERERS have completed an audacious loan deal to sign playmaker Marcus Maddison on loan from Charlton Athletic.

The talented playmaker is looking to revive his career after a tough spell at The Valley where he ended up out of favour under manager Lee Bowyer.

Maddison came through the ranks at Newcastle United and was then plucked from non-league football at Gateshead by Peterborough, where he became one of the lower league’s hottest properties, scoring 62 goals in 249 games at London Road.

With a penchant for spectacular goals, he became a fans’ favourite in six years with the Posh but left for a six-month loan spell at Hull City in January 2020, after which he signed for Charlton as a free agent.

Maddison’s contract in South London expires in the summer and the 27-year-old is looking at his move to Bolton as a chance to get himself going in the right direction once again.

“As soon as I heard Bolton Wanderers were interested in me they immediately became my number one choice,” he said.

“Bolton are a big club and are in a position they shouldn’t be. I am going to do my best to help them get back to where they belong.

“As a winger, goals and assists are a huge part of my game and I’m really looking forward to playing for the club.”

Ian Evatt had spoken about adding a “maverick” to his ranks earlier today – and has been working tirelessly to get the Maddison deal over the line during the transfer window.

“Marcus is a fantastic talent and is a player I have long admired,” he said. “He brings quality to the squad and will be a big player for us for the remainder of the season.”
