Police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing last night that has left a man in a serious condition.

Police were called just after 8:45pm yesterday to a report of a stabbing in Westbourne Avenue, Leigh.

Emergency services were called and a 25-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

A 26-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

Police are now appealing to members of the public for any further information.

Detective Inspector Philip Housley, from GMP's Wigan district, said: "We understand that the community may be shocked by this incident, however, we currently believe that this incident is isolated and there's no wider risk to the community.

"We have today made an arrest and are doing all we can to get to the bottom of what happened and officers are already carrying out a number of lines of enquiry.

"We believe there may have been people in the area at the time that may have some vital information that may be able to assist us.

"Anyone with information, or anyone who was driving on Westbourne Avenue at the time and has dashcam footage is asked to call 0161 856 7254 quoting log 2801 of 04/02/2021.
