A man who was arrested following a stabbing in Leigh has been released by police.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent after a stabbing that left a man in serious condition in hospital in Westbourne Avenue, Leigh.

Emergency services attended just after 8.45pm on February 4 where the 25-year-old man was taken to hospital after the stabbing.

Police say no further action will be taken against the man who was arrested.

Detective inspector Philip Housley, from GMP's Wigan district, said previously: "We understand that the community may be shocked by this incident, however, we currently believe that this incident is isolated and there's no wider risk to the community.

"We believe there may have been people in the area at the time that may have some vital information that may be able to assist us."
