Police have been searching the River Croal today as part of a missing person investigation.
Residents reported seeing a police presence in Cemetery Road, Farnworth, this morning, which included officers dressed in "waterproof clothing".
Police confirmed to The Bolton News that this was part of a missing person investigation.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police, said: "This relates to a missing person investigation."
A local residents said: "Cemetery Road Farnworth there is a bit of police presence and going to do a search of the river.
"They are all dressed up in waterproof clothing, I stopped and asked the officers what they were doing and one of them advised me that they are going to do a search down by the river."
Police did not confirm who the missing person investigation was in relation to.
