Tributes have been paid to Mark Russell, a legend in the Manchester theatre community who died on 1 February at 69.

Mark was the caring husband of Christine, the loving dad of James and Cathy and their partners Laura and Simon, and a beloved Pa to Woody, Alfie, Will and Natalie. He was also a much loved brother, brother-in-law and uncle.

Mark was born and raised in Bolton, but travelled extensively in his twenties, inspired by Jack Kerouac’s novel ‘On The Road’. He returned to Bolton to start his family, and worked in corporate management for Asda.

However, his true passions lay in photography and the arts. Once retired , Mark devoted his time to working closely with local theatre groups, particularly Manchester ADP. He was also an avid writer, reader and poet.

He will be laid to rest on February 22, and deeply missed.
