WORK is progressing fast to move Specsavers across Victoria Square in Bolton town centre - from its current store in the Crompton Palce to the former Costa coffee.

Specsavers is moving across Victoria Square from Crompton Place to the site of the former Costa Coffee.

The Specsavers store had been operating in its home in Crompton Place Shopping centre for more than 15 years and is set to be opening its new site next month.

Work started on its new premises earlier this month.

The opticians was one of the first businesses to confirm it would be moving from Crompton Place after plans were announced for the shopping centre to be demolished and replaced with a hotel, office space and a mixed-use retail, leisure, dining and events space, dubbed “Bolton Works”.

Bosses have said that the store was beginning to outgrow its Crompton Place site, especially after a very busy period over lockdown, with the new larger premises allowing for more customer care.

The current Specsavers store - and the two others in the borough at Middlebrook and Sainsbury's Bolton - remains open while the work progresses.

Opticians are allowed to stay open in lockdown as they are essential retailers.

Robert Ogg, store director for Bolton Specsavers, says: “We have had some great memories at the Crompton Place Shopping Centre unit, but it’s time for us to seek bigger opportunities. I’m certain that the relocation will be a massive benefit to those in the Bolton area who are seeking safe and quality eyecare.”
