A 17-year-old boy who led police on a long chase from Leigh through Bolton has appeared in court today.

The teenager was sentenced to eight months custodial sentence, say police.

Around 11:30am yesterday (Sunday) police saw a vehicle acting suspiciously in Leigh and attempted to stop the vehicle.

However, the person drove off at speed and was then followed through Atherton and Little Hulton, according to police.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: the vehicle was then pursued through residential streets in Little Hulton and then Farnworth before the occupants abandoned the vehicle on Leverhulme Avenue in Great Lever.

The driver was detained shortly after following a successful track from GMP Dogs.

A police spokesman said: "The boy in question was only released from his last spell in a young offenders institute on Friday.

"We are hoping this next period of rehabilitation and education has more of an effect."
