Bolton's coronavirus infection rate has fallen below 200 cases per 100,000 people for the first time in months.

The number of cases in the borough has been falling significantly over the last few weeks, after staying relatively high before that despite falls in national cases.

Positive coronvirus cases have now fallen below an infection rate of 200 cases per 100,000 people for the first time since early January, where there was a large spike in cases after Christmas, and the infection rate rose as high as 380 per 100,000 people.

In the seven days to February 25 Bolton recorded 530 new positive cases of coronavirus.

This is 100 fewer cases than the week before — the seven days to February 18 — where Bolton recorded 662 cases of Covid-19.

530 new positive cases of coronavirus gives Bolton an infection rate of 184.3 cases per 100,000 people in the borough, a drop from 230.2 the previous week.

35 local authorities in England saw their weekly infection rates rise, with Worthing, South Holland, and Hyndburn recording the highest increases.

However, all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester saw their infection rates decrease significantly, with all now recording a rate of under 200 cases per 100,000.

Bury is recording the highest number of cases in the region, according to Public Health England, although its cases have dropped after increasing in recent weeks.

In the seven days to February 25 Bury recorded 363 new positive Covid-19 cases, equalling an infection rate of 190.1 cases per 100,000 people in the borough.

Salford recorded the biggest drop in cases. In the days to February 25 the borough recorded 364 new cases of coronavirus at a rate of 140.6 cases per 100,000 people.

This is significantly lower than the previous seven days where Salford recorded a rate of 199.4 cases per 100,000.

Trafford is still recording the lowest rate in the region having recorded 264 new Covid-19 cases in the most recent seven days at an infection rate of 111.2 cases per 100,000 people in the borough.
