BOLTON has been named in the top 10 places for families to live in England, according to new research.

Pram company Play Like Mum analysed 40 of the most populated towns and cities in the UK and gave each a score out of 100 based on twelve factors - including average house price, average pay and the percentage of 'Outstanding' schools in the area.

Bolton came in at number seven on the list, with a score of 55.28, narrowly being beaten out by Newcastle for the sixth place spot.

York came out on top of the list - with Cambridge and Southend on Sea placing second and third respectively.

The survey also revealed that the average house price in Bolton is £150,000 and the average rate of pay in the borough is £14.44 per hour.

Additionally, a quarter of Bolton's schools are ranked outstanding by Ofsted, while the average cost of private childcare is only £630 per month - less than half of the cost in the likes of London and York.
