AN oncology research nurse is proving that life is a marathon, not a sprint.
Steph Ellison, from Bolton, works at Rosemere Cancer Centre, Lancashire and South Cumbria’s specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre.
After six years of trying, she has won a place in this year’s London Marathon, which will take place in October.
Steph, 28, has set herself the goal of completing the 26.2-mile course - her first marathon - in under four-and-a-half hours.
She is also hoping to raise at least £500 for the charity Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which funds cutting-edge equipment, research, training and other cancer services and therapies that the NHS is unable to afford.
“We all more than likely know someone who is or has been affected by cancer,” said Steph. “Rosemere Cancer Foundation is a charity I am passionate about raising money for so that we can fund more research to provide more effective cancer treatments in the hope of providing a better future for cancer patients.”
Steph. who has been running on and off for seven years, will be training hard over the next few months.
She will also be planning her wedding to her fiancé Luke, after it was postponed last October.
