A BUS driver was left with glass in his eye after a gang threw bricks at his vehicle.

A group of vandals – believed to be youths – approached a Vision Bus 129 service, which runs from Higher Green to Farnworth, in Mosley Common last night.

They hurled several bricks at the bus, shattering three windows and the glass of a door.

Glass ended up going in the eye of the driver and an ambulance was called to treat him at around 8.15pm.

But this was not the first time one of Vision's buses was targeted last night.

Only half an hour earlier, at around 7.45pm, the 559 service was heading along Willows Lane in Deane when two bricks, from either side of the road were hurled at the vehicle.

Two windows were smashed but no-one was hurt in the incident.

Following the two incidents, Vision made the decision to tell drivers to not travel into estates and to stick to main roads for the safety of themselves and passengers.

Director Chris Smith said: "In the incident in Mosley Common, a gang emerged and threw four to five house bricks at the vehicle.

"They smashed three windows and a glass door and the driver ended up with glass in his eye.

"On Willows Lane bricks were thrown from either side and smashed two windows."

Mr Smith says brick-throwing incidents seem to be getting more common, raising concerns with drivers.

He added: "It is getting to the point that drivers are getting nervous when they are working and that is not a position they should have to be in.

"It is just mindless reckless behaviour."

Diamond Bus also reported problems on Tuesday night.
