As a British citizen I take exception to the comments of Malcolm Pittock in his letter (2/03/ 21) Labour is only hope for Shamima, in which he makes a plea on behalf of Ms Begum for her British citizenship to be restored.

He has the effrontery to accuse our government of “denying her any access to justice and she is clearly the victim of tyranny”. I have another quote for the writer and it comes from the lips of Ms Begum herself.

In 2019 when interviewed over the murder of 22 people many young girls of her age in the Manchester Arena concert she said it was “fair justification after Syrian air strikes”.

A further quote which shows she has not shown an ounce of genuine regret was illustrated when she said she felt “unfazed” at the sight of severed heads in a bin.

As parents we recognise that teenagers can go off the rails at times but it’s quite another matter to join a death cult with an explicit agenda to torture, maim and kill.

By joining ISIS she literally slept with the enemy, marrying an ISIS fighter having his children and proved she preferred justice delivered by the sword as opposed to that of the country of her birth she loathes.

I commend the decision of the Supreme Court to block her bid to return and fight for her stripped citizenship. For once our judicial system has put public safety over the rights of a terror sympathiser.

Sadly I am afraid this is not the end. Waiting patiently in the wings rubbing their hands are another bunch of greedy lawyers waiting for the next chapter and a lucrative appeal to the Court of Human Rights. The sympathetic campaigners from Liberty will not be far behind them.
