Rubbish was dumped in a car park of a popular country park overnight.

Bromley Cross councillor, David Greenhalgh, said residents contacted him reporting significant amounts of rubbish dumped in one the car parks to Jumbles Country Park.

The waste dumped was predominantly food waste, including many plastic egg boxes, which were dumped on the site off Chapeltown Road.

Cllr Greenhalgh said that he reported the waste to the council immediately, who are working to get it cleared today, and has labelled it "unacceptable behaviour".

He said: "I’ve had the dumping of predominantly food waste on the Jumbles Car Park off Chapeltown Road reported to me this morning by residents.

"It would seem this has happened over night.

"I have reported it and will attempt to get it moved as soon as possible.

"If anyone has any information regarding this or saw anything, please let me know.

"Team being despatched to clear site today.

"They will be looking for any evidence of source, and if any is found, there will be no hesitation to prosecute.

"This is unacceptable behaviour. We are using the powers we have, adopting and increasing powers when the law permits.

"We will do everything we can to address this behaviour which is blighting our town and countryside."
