RIVINGTON Heritage Trust is urging people to obey the lockdown rules this weekend after five people were issued with fines on just one day this week.

Chorley Police are said to have stepped up patrol in the area popular with walkers and families because of the increased visitor numbers — and parking issues.

The Horwich beauty spot has been a huge attraction for people to enjoy their daily exercise during the pandemic.

Details of the covid fines and other issues caused by visitors were posted on the Rivington Heritage Trust Facebook page.

Richard Galloway, a director of Rivington Heritage Trust, said: ’“Generally we’re finding that our visitors are obeying covid rules – even during the fine weather we have just had.

“Whilst littering can be an issue at times, we’re delighted that local people are able to walk to The Gardens to exercise and enjoy the views. We have no volunteers on the hillside at the moment, although we are starting to plan ahead to get some of our team back once restrictions ease.

“We do have a skeleton staff on site from Groundwork to carry out the day-to-day maintenance in The Gardens on behalf of the Trust. We’re grateful for the work of Chorley Police in patrolling the area, and helping us to tackle the isolated incidences of vandalism we have experienced over the last couple of years. We would just like to encourage our visitors to continue to respect lockdown rules this weekend.”
