SIX-year-old Minnie Chapelhow today helped bring a community left devastated by the tragic death of much loved and respected neighbour Hazel Wilcock together.

Minnie, who desperately wanted to do something in the memory of her neighbour Hazel, who died when her home collapsed in an explosion, organised a cake and lemonade sale outside her home — which raised an incredible £4,000.

The Edenfield Primary School pupil, like her fellow villagers, was left upset by the tragedy which unfolded in Summerseat on the evening on February 17. And the youngster wanted to to do something positive to help.

So moved was one villager, Christian Pepper, by Minnie's kind act, he donated a generous £2,000.

Minnie was left overwhelmed by the support she received for the cake sale, describing it as 'amazing'.

Minnie said:"I wanted to do something to raise money for Mrs Hazel who died on our street.

"I couldn't believe it when people were turning up at 10am."

Money raised from the sale will go to support St Ann's Hospice, where Hazel worked.

Mum Faye said Minnie came up with the idea for the cake and lemonade sale on Wednesday to raise money.

Faye said: "I haven't counted all the money yet, but we think it will be around £4,000.

"We had so many donations to the stall, and balloons were also donated. We thought it would be a tray of cakes and for the stall to be open for just two hours.

"There were queues all day and at one point we ran out of cakes and there were all these people, so I had to run any buy some more.

"The cake sale should have opened at noon, but because of the queues, the stall opened earlier and people were still queuing after closing time."

Fire crews who were at the scene in the aftermath of the explosion also visited the stall.

Minnie was helped on the stall by friend Emily, mum, and dad Chris.

Faye said: "After the stall she asked me if she could change the world because she had helped make a difference.

"I am so proud of her and so grateful to everyone who supported the stall, the fire crews, Christian and everybody for supporting the stall.
