A MUSICIAN has released a song marking the 125 years of September 1896, when thousands of Boltonians took part in the Winter Hill Trespass.

Johnny Campbell, who specialises in traditional English folk music has releases his Winter Hill Trespass as a limited edition on vinyl this week.

Johnny said: "It's important that we celebrate our history, the history of ordinary people.

"Struggles, fights, battles lost and won have helped to shape our world today. So much of everyday life has been forgotten and lost. We learn about the history of the wealthy and powerful, but for me that is the history of the one per cent.

"I want to write and perform songs that tell the history of the 99 per cent, the history of ordinary people, it’s a powerful history we need to keep alive.

"Most people today, still have more in common with a Boltonian mill worker in the 1890s than with a wealthy landowner."

He is hoping that once Covid restrictions are lifted he will be able to perform in Bolton as part of the Winter Hill 125 celebrations.

The musician has also produced Winter Hill merchandise including vinyl, tea towel, T-shirt via a Kickstarter funding campaign.
