A TEENAGE fashion designer from Westhoughton will have her work sold on a major UK fashion website.

Katie Macpherson, 17, has won a UNiDAYS competition which will see her 'little black dress' design sold by Missguided - a leading women's fashion retailer.

The Wigan and Leigh College fashion student is thrilled to have received national recognition - and has also won £1,000 in cash and £1,000 in vouchers as part of the prize.

She said: "I've always been inspired by fashion and art. I think looking at runway images and collections is always important when designing.

"I like contemporary styles and like to incorporate this into my work."

Missguided was established in 2009 by Nitin Passi who remains the owner of the company, which has more than four million active users across the globe. It currently has its headquarters in Trafford Park.

Since its launch, the online retailer has experienced rapid growth in the UK and has expanded into America, Australia, France and Germany.

Katie's mum, Kelly Partington, added: "It's an amazing opportunity for her. It could launch her career.

"She will be going to university later this year to chase her dreams of becoming a fashion designer."

Katie - formerly a pupil at Westhoughton High School - is currently waiting to hear back on whether she has been accepted into the London College of Fashion but has always received offers from several other universities across the country.

A UniDays spokesperson said: "Missguided loved this little black dress with on trend cut out shapes, perfect to live your best life post lockdown blues.

"The dress will be available on the website soon in two different colours as well as a bold print."
